Toraya's Seasonal Fresh Confections Available at Matsuya Asakusa

Matsuya Asakusa (1-4-1 Hanakawado, Taito-ku, Tokyo), a landmark in Asakusa, will be hosting a special event featuring seasonal fresh confections from the renowned Japanese confectionery maker, Toraya. This event, held in the "Asakusa Sweets Komachi" food section, offers a chance to savor delicate and beautiful Japanese sweets that capture the essence of Japan's changing seasons. It's an ideal opportunity for Japanese confectionery enthusiasts and a perfect stop for those exploring Asakusa.

Two Types of Sweets Expressing Seasonal Transitions

During this event, Toraya will present two types of meticulously crafted fresh confections. Each has a limited sales period, offering unique designs and flavors.

Toraya's Ryofu (Cool Breeze) - Domyoji Dough with White Bean Paste

Available daily from 11:00 AM between August 1st and August 15th, "Ryofu" is made with domyoji (glutinous rice flour). This confection is inspired by the cool breezes of summer. The thinly pink-colored domyoji dough is coated with mochi and features a "morning glory" imprint, symbolizing morning glories blooming in the wind. The gentle sweetness of the white bean paste complements the summer heat.

Toraya's Suisen Momiji-jyu (Narcissus Autumn Leaf Layered Sweet) - Kuzu Dough with Yellow and Red Bean Paste

From August 16th to August 31st, also starting at 11:00 AM, "Suisen Momiji-jyu" made with kuzu (arrowroot) dough will be available. The name "Momiji-jyu" is inspired by "kasane no irome," the elegant color combinations seen in Heian period aristocratic attire. This confection, with its yellow and red dyed bean paste encased in kuzu dough, evokes the coming of autumn even amidst the lingering summer heat, offering a refined taste.

Both confections are priced at 540 yen (tax included). Please note that the images are for illustrative purposes, and the actual appearance of the products may vary.
