Kyoto Filmmakers Lab: Unleash Your Talent in Period Drama Production!

The 18th "Kyoto Filmmakers Lab" is set to be held in December 2025. This program, a youth development initiative by the Kyoto Historical International Film Festival (KHIFF), offers a unique opportunity for emerging filmmakers from around the world to experience authentic period drama production in Kyoto's renowned studios, under the guidance of top directors and film professionals.

The lab features two main courses: "Hands-on Period Drama" and "Masters Session." In "Hands-on Period Drama," participants will utilize the open sets of Toei Kyoto Studio Park and Shochiku Film Studio to create short period drama films of approximately three minutes, using authentic sets, props, costumes, and lighting. The "Masters Session" includes lectures and discussions with key figures in the film industry, such as judges from the Tokyo International Film Festival, and also features popular sword fighting workshops.
