Oasis 21 Sunday Atelier: Ethical SDGs Workshop in Nagoya

An ethical SDGs workshop, "Oasis 21 Sunday Atelier," will be held at Oasis 21 in Higashi-ku, Nagoya, inviting children and adults to "play together." This event focuses on "Fair Trade × Upcycling × Local Traditional Industries," providing an opportunity to deepen understanding of social issues while engaging in hands-on activities.

"Kind to the World, Fun for the Region, Beautiful for the Future"

With the concept of "Kind to the World, Fun for the Region, Beautiful for the Future," this workshop allows participants to easily learn about ethical consumption and SDGs through enjoyable activities. Held on the second Sunday of every month, the next session is confirmed for Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the sub-space in the northeast corner of Oasis 21's Galaxy Square (B1F). While participation is open to everyone, it's advisable to check the official website for any changes in venue or potential cancellations.

Diverse Workshop Offerings

The following workshops will be available on the day:

"CAPELLA" - Accessories from Plastic Bottle Caps

Create unique accessories and straps by upcycling plastic bottle caps discarded by shops within Oasis 21. Participants can freely combine parts to make one-of-a-kind items. Fees range from 500 to 1,000 yen, with a duration of 15 minutes or more.

"Eco Market happy planet" - Reducing Waste, Solving Environmental Issues

Make smartphone straps and neck straps from kimono obi ties (2,000-2,800 yen, 30 mins), sea glass-like keyholders from discarded acrylic materials (1,000 yen, 20 mins), or "Oshi-katsu" (fan activity) keyholders using waste acrylic from Oasis 21 shops (1,000-1,200 yen, 15 mins). This initiative exemplifies upcycling by giving new value to discarded materials.

"Somei Kobo Mizuiro" - Small Fabric Goods with Arimatsu Shibori and Coffee Grounds

Utilizing the traditional Arimatsu Shibori dyeing techniques of Nagoya and dye made from recycled coffee grounds from Oasis 21 cafes, participants can create small fabric items like straps, brooches, pendants, and earrings. Prices range from 500 to 1,200 yen, with a duration of 15 to 30 minutes.

"Linorea / Aichi Gakusen University Lifestyle Design Dept. Hiraiwa Studio" - Non-Withered Flower Boxes from Fabric Scraps

Create "non-withered flower boxes" using cute, unused fabric scraps. University students will lead this SDGs-themed workshop. The cost is 500 yen, taking about 15 minutes or more.

"DIY & FAB GIFT (Glocal Innovation Factory Toyokawa)" - Woodworking with Aichi Prefecture Timber

Craft a pencil holder (for children, 1,000 yen, 30 mins+) using Japanese cedar and cypress from Aichi Prefecture, or a "maze" by freely combining scrap wood (small 500 yen, large 1,000 yen, 40 mins+). This workshop promotes incorporating wood into daily life.
