Baby Crying Sumo Tournament at Matsuzakaya Nagoya

The "Hakkedoi! Baby Crying Sumo Tournament" will be held at Matsuzakaya Nagoya Store in Sakae, Nagoya City on May 24, 2026 (Sunday). This traditional event aims to pray for the healthy growth of babies, with participants competing in a crying contest while held up on a sumo ring. This year, participants from the "Oji Shrine Crying Sumo," a nationally selected intangible folk cultural asset of Tochigi Prefecture, will officiate the sumo matches.
A handprint art workshop will also be held as a commemorative activity for participants. The venue is equipped with a kids' space, diaper changing facilities, and a nursing space, ensuring a comfortable environment for families.
