The "Mystic Cubs Anthology Yoshimasa Tsuchiya Exhibition," a solo show by acclaimed wood sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya, will be held at the First Gallery on the 8th floor of Matsuzakaya Nagoya Department Store, located in Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya City.

This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Tsuchiya's artistic world, featuring his original mythical creatures and charming animals, which are imbued with a rare sense of divinity and grace. His works are known for their refined forms that can be both alluring and deeply calming, providing viewers with a sense of peace. The collection is said to hold a quiet revelation, capable of purifying the soul from the spiritual turmoil of modern society.

Tsuchiya himself states that while humans often imbue animals with symbolic meanings, his aim is to create works where the creatures themselves seem to slip free from these imposed meanings, existing with their own will. The exhibition will showcase pieces such as "Nekoryu" (Cat Dragon), "Nekomata" (Cat Spirit), "Kaba" (Hippopotamus), "Unicorn A," "Giraffe A," and "Qilin B," inviting visitors to experience his distinctive artistic vision.

Born in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, in 1977, Tsuchiya completed his doctoral studies at Tokyo University of the Arts and received the Enku Award in 2018. He has held numerous solo exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. This marks his third exhibition at Matsuzakaya Nagoya, following successful shows in 2019 and 2022. His extensive exhibition history includes prominent venues like Takashimaya department stores, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, and the Yokosuka Museum of Art.

Matsuzakaya Nagoya Department Store is conveniently located in the heart of Nagoya, easily accessible from Sakae Station on the subway and JR Nagoya Station. The First Gallery on the 8th floor provides a fitting space for this art exhibition. The event is indoors, and considerable attendance is anticipated, particularly during peak hours.
