【Participants Wanted】Hakkeyoi! Baby Crying Sumo Tournament

A "Baby Crying Sumo Tournament" will be held at Matsuzakaya Nagoya Store in Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya City. This event is a traditional Japanese ritual aimed at praying for the healthy growth and well-being of babies, based on the saying "Crying babies grow up."

On the day of the event, babies will compete with their cries on the sumo ring to celebrate their growth. Participants will experience a traditional ceremony conducted by the "Ogo Jinja Crying Sumo" practitioners, a nationally designated intangible folk cultural property from Tochigi Prefecture. Furthermore, a handprint art workshop will be held concurrently as a commemorative souvenir for participants, allowing you to create a record of your baby's development.

The venue is equipped with a kids' space, diaper changing facilities, and a nursing space, ensuring a comfortable environment for attendees with young children.

• Eligibility: 160 children (80 per session) aged from approximately 3 months (when neck is stable) up to 2 years and 11 months.
• Participation Fee: ¥15,000 (tax included) per child (*¥10,000 (tax included) for holders of Daimaru Matsuzakaya "Tokujin" Gold Card, Daimaru Matsuzakaya Gold Card, or Daimaru Matsuzakaya Card, or for those who newly join on the day).
• Application Period: Until Wednesday, May 13, 2026, 11:59 PM
• Commemorative Gifts: Omamori (amulet), Ofuda (talisman), Hamaya (arrow), Tenugui (towel), handprint art.
