Chukyo University Lecture: Catch Galaxy Radio Waves with Handmade Antenna! Nagoya City Science Museum
Chukyo University lecture 'Catch Galaxy Radio Waves!' held at Nagoya City Science Museum on Aug 29, 2026. Experience detecting cosmic radio waves with a handmade antenna.
The "Chukyo University Collaborative Lecture: Let's Catch Galaxy Radio Waves! - Capturing the Milky Way's Hydrogen Atoms with a Handmade Antenna -" will be held at the Nagoya City Science Museum (2-17-1 Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture) on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
This lecture is a collaboration between Chukyo University and the Nagoya City Science Museum, aiming to provide children with hands-on experience in cutting-edge science and technology. It offers a unique opportunity to connect with the mysteries of the universe by using a handmade antenna to detect radio waves emitted by hydrogen atoms in the Milky Way, which are normally invisible to us.
Event Details
Participants will build their own antennas and use them to receive radio waves from space. Through this experience, they can potentially catch faint radio waves from thousands of light-years away and indirectly perceive the Milky Way's rapid movement. The lecture's appeal lies in experiencing the vastness and dynamic nature of the universe through a scientific approach. All necessary equipment and computers will be provided and lent out by the university, making it convenient for participants to attend without bringing their own gear.
