The experiential event "Ningen Kansatsu BOX" (Human Observation BOX) will be held at Matsuzakaya Ueno Store's 6th-floor event hall, located at 3-29-5 Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo, from Saturday, September 19 to Sunday, September 27, 2026. This exhibition offers a unique concept where visitors observe the "last day" of people within a box, set in a post-apocalyptic world.

What is "Ningen Kansatsu BOX"?

"Ningen Kansatsu BOX" provides an unprecedented theatrical experience where participants observe "the end of various human lives" from the outside of a box, rather than entering it. The figures and voices of the participants do not reach the characters inside the box, nor can they interfere with the story's progression. Visitors are simply asked to quietly witness someone's passing time. Through this quiet observation, participants are encouraged to explore answers to questions about ideal ways to end life in a world with a predetermined end, such as how to spend time with loved ones, what words to leave behind, or what regrets to try and rectify.

A New Theatrical Experience and Diverse Narratives

The most distinctive feature of this event lies in its theatrical format. The stage is a closed box approximately 3 meters square, and participants observe the performance from the outside through holes. Depending on the viewing location and angle, the scenes of people and events unfolding inside the box change, leading to different information and impressions of characters for each participant. Furthermore, a stereophonic sound system is implemented. By wearing headphones provided at the venue, participants receive information not only visually but also aurally, as the sounds and conversations heard will vary. This ensures that each participant has a unique experience, even when observing the same story, due to differences in perceived dialogues and sound effects.
