The Nagoya Science Museum will host "Kagaku Seminar: Sea Treasure Hunt - Let's Find Marine Life in the Sand!" on July 12, 2026. This hands-on program invites participants to examine sand collected from a southern island's coast using a stereoscopic microscope to discover marine organisms and their fragments.
Participants will have the opportunity to find diverse remnants of life, such as sea urchin spines, star sand, beautiful shells, coral, and crab claws. The seminar will be led by Associate Professor Motohiro Kawase of the Faculty of Human Sciences at Aichi Mizuho University, offering expert insights into marine biodiversity.
The event is open to elementary school students and the general public, with mandatory participation of a guardian for elementary school students. The program is divided into two sessions: a morning session from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and an afternoon session from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Each session has a capacity of 32 participants, and selection will be by lottery if applications exceed the number of available spots. The participation fee is 200 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and 350 yen for general admission, covering the lecture, materials, and insurance. General admission to the museum is free, but separate fees apply if you wish to visit the exhibition halls before or after the seminar.
