The FUJI Railway Plaza at the Nagoya City Science Museum will host a "B6 Driving Experience" event on Sunday, August 9, 2026. This event offers a unique opportunity for visitors to step into the shoes of a train operator.
Experience Driving a B6 Steam Locomotive
Participants will have the chance to operate the throttle valve handle of a B6 steam locomotive and feel the power of its driving wheels. This hands-on experience allows attendees to appreciate the mechanics and sounds of a real locomotive from the driver's cabin. The driving experience is divided into two sessions, 'A' and 'B', each with a limited capacity.
Session Times and Capacity
- Session A: 10:10 AM - 12:10 PM (Capacity: 24 groups)
- Session B: 1:20 PM - 3:10 PM (Capacity: 22 groups)
Each group can consist of up to 4 people, and the experience duration is 5 minutes per group. A numbered ticket (seiriken) is required for participation, which will be distributed in front of the B6 driver's cabin according to the experience start times. The ticket distribution and experience times are as follows:
- Tickets distributed at 10:00 AM: For experiences from 10:10 AM to 11:05 AM
- Tickets distributed at 11:00 AM: For experiences from 11:10 AM to 12:05 PM
- Tickets distributed at 1:10 PM: For experiences from 1:20 PM to 2:15 PM
- Tickets distributed at 2:10 PM: For experiences from 2:20 PM to 3:05 PM
Additional Free Participation Events
In addition to the driving experience, two other events are open to all visitors. One is the "Kifusha 344" (a carriage used by Imperial attendants) and a Nagoya City Tram, both of which visitors can enter and explore their interiors. This provides a rare glimpse inside these historic vehicles.
The second event features live commentary from knowledgeable volunteers. These volunteers will share insights about the various exhibits at the FUJI Railway Plaza. Commentary sessions will be held for the B6 steam locomotive (starting at 12:10 PM and 3:10 PM) and for the "Kifusha" and City Tram (starting at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM), each lasting approximately 15 minutes.
Free Participation Event Schedule
