Children's Science Experiment Workshop at Nagoya City Science Museum on Aug 8, 2026
Nagoya City Science Museum will hold a free "Children's Science Experiment Workshop" on Aug 8, 2026, for grades 3-9. Advance registration required.
The Nagoya City Science Museum, located at 2-17-1 Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya, will host the "Children's Science Experiment Workshop" (Refresh Science Classroom) on Saturday, August 8, 2026. This workshop aims to allow children to experience the wonders of science and learn through hands-on activities.
Experience Scientific Wonders with Two Themes
The workshop features two distinct themes: "Can Images Float in Mid-Air? Paraboloid Dome 3D Screen" and "Can a Rainbow Appear Around Shadows? Sparkling Screen." Each theme involves experiments and crafts designed to unravel everyday phenomena scientifically.
Theme A: "Can Images Float in Mid-Air? Paraboloid Dome 3D Screen"
This session, running from 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM, explores the fascinating phenomenon created by LED lights. Participants will investigate how images projected onto a dome screen appear to float and create a craft that doubles as a lantern. It offers a visually surprising experience while teaching the principles of light and projection.
Theme B: "Can a Rainbow Appear Around Shadows? Sparkling Screen"
From 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Theme B recreates the "Brocken phenomenon" indoors. This phenomenon, typically observed on high mountains where one sees a rainbow around their shadow, will be explored through experiments and crafts within the museum. It aims to share the wonder of natural phenomena and the joy of scientific understanding.
Participation and Target Audience
This workshop is designed for elementary school students from grade 3 to junior high school students, with a capacity of 30 participants per theme. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration is required. Applications can be submitted via the Nagoya City Electronic Application Service. Search for "Refresh Science Classroom" on the service's website or apply directly through the respective theme pages. Due to potential high demand, applications will be decided by lottery.
The application deadline is Friday, July 17, 2026 (must arrive by this date). Applications by postcard are also accepted, with one postcard allowing multiple entries; however, all participants' names must be clearly written.
