The 23rd Sakata-Hayakawa Memorial Lecture at Nagoya City Science Museum
The 23rd Sakata-Hayakawa Memorial Lecture will be held at Nagoya City Science Museum on Dec 20, 2026, discussing the history of matter in the universe with latest research.
The Nagoya City Science Museum will host "The 23rd Sakata-Hayakawa Memorial Lecture" on Sunday, December 20, 2026. This lecture will delve into the "history of matter" in the universe, focusing on the evolution of matter in space and the environment in which our solar system formed, incorporating the latest research findings.
Tracing the History of Matter in the Universe: Insights from Latest Research
Space is generally considered a harsh environment for matter, filled with ultraviolet and cosmic rays, and characterized by extremely low temperatures and densities. However, recent studies have revealed that various organic molecules form even under such conditions and are delivered to newly forming stars and planetary systems. This lecture will touch upon the diversity of material evolution and explore the environment in which our solar system originated.
Respected speaker, Dr. Shoji Asai, Director-General of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), will provide an overview of the "history of matter" in the universe, based on the latest scientific results from radio and infrared observations, as well as solar system exploration. The lecture will also discuss its relationship with structural formation, including the formation of stars and planetary systems.
Event Overview and Participation
This lecture is aimed at high school students and above who are interested in space science, with a capacity of 200 participants. Participation is free, but admission to the Nagoya City Science Museum requires a separate entrance fee. Those wishing to attend must apply in advance via the internet using the Nagoya City Electronic Application System. The application deadline is Sunday, December 6, 2026. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, a lottery will be held, prioritizing students and teachers.
