Observe Microbes with Researchers at Miraikan (July 18, 2026)
An event at Miraikan in Odaiba on July 18, 2026, where participants can observe and learn about microbes with researchers.
The National Museum of Nature and Science (Miraikan) in Odaiba will host "Observe Microbes with Researchers!" on Saturday, July 18, 2026. This event offers a unique opportunity to experience the "Sustainable Biotechnology Project," which aims to create a sustainable society using the power of microorganisms.
An Experiential Event to Explore the World of Microbes
Participants will have the chance to observe microorganisms up close using microscopes and sketch their forms. Following the observation session, researchers will provide detailed explanations about microbes and introduce the "electricity-generating bacteria" research being conducted as part of the project. These bacteria are capable of producing electricity, and the research focuses on discovering strains with high electricity-generating potential from soil and mud samples collected from various locations. This event goes beyond simple observation, offering a deep understanding of the potential of microbes and their future contributions to society through the eyes of researchers.
Laboratory Tour and Interaction with Researchers
In the latter half of the event, participants will be guided by researchers to the "Sustainable Biotechnology Project" laboratory. Witnessing cutting-edge research firsthand provides a glimpse into the forefront of science. The laboratory is dedicated to making our lives richer and more sustainable by harnessing the power of microorganisms. The 90-minute program is designed to stimulate scientific curiosity, with opportunities for Q&A with the researchers.
