Special Exhibition 'Treasures of Shingon Buddhism: Kukai's 1250th Anniversary' Held

A special exhibition commemorating the 1250th anniversary of the birth of Kobo Daishi Kukai (774-835), titled 'Treasures of Shingon Buddhism: Kukai's 1250th Anniversary,' will be held at the Tokyo National Museum's Heiseikan.

This exhibition delves into the history of Shingon Buddhism, founded by Kukai, showcasing precious treasures gathered from the eighteen head temples belonging to the Association of Shingon Sects' Head Temples and related temples. Visitors can experience a wide array of highlights, including artifacts associated with Kukai, the essence of Esoteric Buddhist art, the world of Buddhist iconography, the rituals of 'Goshichinichi Misho,' and treasures, sculptures, and hidden Buddhas from various Shingon sects. Through eighty-eight masterpieces, attendees can immerse themselves in the history and expansion of Kukai, Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, and the faith in Kobo Daishi.
