Hiroshige's "Best Angles of Edo" Exhibition at Tokyo National Museum

The Tokyo National Museum presents "Utagawa Hiroshige: Best Angles of Edo," a special exhibition featuring his major series, displayed in three distinct periods. Commemorates the acquisition of the Susumu Uchiyama collection.

The Tokyo National Museum will host a special exhibition titled "Utagawa Hiroshige: Best Angles of Edo." This exhibition commemorates the museum's acquisition of 1,025 ukiyo-e prints from the collection of Susumu Uchiyama.

Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) was a renowned ukiyo-e artist celebrated for his landscape prints that skillfully depicted the changing seasons and the lives of people. This exhibition will focus on his masterpieces, including the "Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō," "Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaidō," and "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo," presented in three separate periods, with all works from these series exhibited together for the first time.

Susumu Uchiyama, the former owner, was a collector who built a high-quality ukiyo-e collection, centered around Hiroshige's works, and significantly contributed to its study and dissemination. Visitors can experience the landscapes of Edo from 200 years ago through these well-preserved prints. A special corner featuring ultra-high-definition video will allow for an immersive appreciation of Hiroshige's vibrant colors.
