さわってわかる! 探査技術でいどむ、未知の世界

A special exhibition tour titled "Touch and Understand! Exploring the Unknown with Exploration Technology" will be held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Odaiba on August 2, 2026. This event is designed for individuals with visual impairments (4th grade and above) to deepen their understanding of the unknown world through exploration technology. It offers a unique opportunity to experience the romance and possibilities of exploration by touching models while listening to explanations from science communicators.

Experience Exploration Technology Challenging the Unknown

This tour focuses on the deep-sea drilling vessel "Chikyu" and the exploration probe for the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission. By touching 3D-printed models of "Chikyu" and a cross-section of Earth, participants can learn about Earth's internal structure and the functions of the exploration vessel. Furthermore, touching models of the MMX probe, which aims for sample return from Phobos, and planets in the solar system will allow participants to grasp the technology of space exploration and the vastness of the universe.

Deepen Understanding with Permanent Exhibitions

After the model experience, participants will move to the 5th-floor permanent exhibition area of Miraikan. Here, they will tour exhibits that introduce exploration technology, such as "Even Dust Accumulates to Change the World" and "Unread Space." With explanations from science communicators, they can gain a deeper understanding of how humanity continues to challenge the unknown and learn about the history and future of exploration.
