Akira Yoshida Solo Exhibition 'Empty Bears' at Shibuya Hikarie, Free Admission

'Empty Bears' Reflecting Contemporary Society

Akira Yoshida is known for his unique technique of creating hollow objects from FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) and meticulously painting them with airbrush to depict scenes from everyday life, including social issues and urban landscapes. The endearing forms and exquisite coloring of his works, which are hollow inside, subtly hint at the precariousness of contemporary society. This exhibition will feature approximately 30 new pieces from his "Empty Bear" series.

Akira Yoshida's Career and Public Art

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1976, Yoshida graduated from Tama Art University's Department of Sculpture. He has been actively involved in creating art for public spaces, with permanent installations at MTR's City One station in Hong Kong and Shibuya Fukuras (Shibuya Cat Hariko). He also created 'Houneko,' the lucky cat for the Nishi-Ginza Chance Center, known as Japan's busiest lottery shop. His work aims to integrate art into society as an accessible element.
